On 16 May 2019 at the Lateran University in Rome, the Chair for the Theology of the People of God presented the Italian translation of the correspondence between Pope em. Benedict XVI and the Viennese Chief Rabbi Arie Folger. This correspondence was published by the Italian Benedict biographer Elio Guerriero. After Pope em. Benedict had published a contribution on the relationship of Judaism and Christianity in 2018, Chief Rabbi Folger wrote in the summer of the same year a remarkable response. This led to an important and positive exchange which was important for the ongoing dialogue.

At the event in a fully packed lecture hall, the speakers were Chief Rabbi Arie Folger, Vienna, Archbishop Georg Gänswein, Prefect of the Pontifical House and Private Secretary of Pope em. Benedict XVI, Dr. Andrea Monda, director of the Osservatore Romano, Dr. Elio Guerriero, author and publisher as well as Prof. Achim Buckenmaier, director of the Chair for the Theology of the people of God.

The book is published by the publishing house San Paolo and with the title:

Benedetto XVI in dialogo con il rabbino Arie Folger: Ebrei e cristiani.
A cura di Elio Guerriero. Cinisello Balsamo: San Paolo, 2019

At the end of September 2017, during a reception for the members of the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization, Professor Achim Buckenmaier, the director of the Chair, drew the attention of Pope Francis to the distance study program. In his speech to all the members of the Pontifical Council Pope Francis had spoken about the People of God. Resuming this key word, Prof. Achim Buckenmaier shortly explained to the Holy Father this new initiative. Pope Francis was visibly interested in this contribution to the New Evangelization. In the adjacent photo you can see between Pope Francis and prof. Buckenmaier also Archbishop Rino Fisichella, president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization.
